October - Pumpkin Drawings

In October, 4th Grade students drew pumpkins at night in oil pastel. They learned how to use value shading to draw shadows in their pictures. Students learned about the importance of a light source in a drawing when using value shading.

Students in 5th and 6th Grade learned to draw pumpkins using value shading in pencil. They used a variety of values in their drawings to make their pumpkins appear 3D. Later, details and texture were added to their pictures.

Students in Grades 2 and 3 created drawings of pumpkins inspired by the paintings of Brazilian artist, Romero Britto. Pattern and repetition were used in the design. Warm colors were used for the pumpkin and cool colors for the background.
