These mummy masks were created by 6th Grade students in art class in a lesson with an interdisciplinary connection with social studies.  The ancient Egyptians made mummy masks from a material called cartonnage which is composed of linen and plaster.  Students used plaster gauze, a material very similar to what was used in ancient Egypt.  After viewing photographs of mummy masks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City,  students incorporated elements of Egyptian design into their work.
