South American Bird Sculptures By Third Graders

Third graders learned about sculpture through the creation of bird ornaments inspired by the folk art of Ecuador and other countries in South America. Students began by forming an armature from foil which was covered in plaster gauze. After drying, the birds were painted with bright colors and feathers were added. The bird ornaments were sold at the 2012 Salem Hyde holiday craft sale.
